Drone use for Public Safety Agencies

Capt. George Kharma, Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency, NS

Drones have quickly become a very common situational awareness tool by many public safety agencies. Police, Fire, and SAR teams all can benefit from the rapid deployment of drones. Within minutes of arrival, a drone can stream real time aerial footage to command, enhancing resource deployment and scene safety. With the addition of thermal cameras, drones can provide visibility through smoke or foliage to quickly identify hot spots or persons unseen by regular cameras.

Capt. George Kharma is a HRFE drone program co-developer and team lead, with five years of quadcopter flight experience in Public Safety applications.
